At my school people start "dating" in 4th grade! i think that is kind of weird. I go to a catholic school (kindergarten to 8th grade) and if people are "dating" they don't talk to each other much! what do you think about this?

Well i dont see this as "dating" but more of a try at what they see their parent(s) and older people that they idolize doing.

I remember having a g/f in the 3rd grade but too scared to do anything about it because well, i thought she had cooties and i was going to catch some kind of disease. I personally believe that this is just really nothing to be too worried about.

My daughter is in 4th grade and she has a "boyfriend". It doesn't bother me because she hardly ever sees him or talks to him. I think it is just the begining of learning the dynamics of life and relationships. Mostly harmless as long as I keep an eye on her and keep communications opened.

Well I remember this when I was going to school. "Dating" in those very early ages was considered more of a show. It's just proving to other people in school that you are attractive and interesting enough to have a significant other. Almost like a popularity contest.

Although at that age you're still uncomfortable with yourself, making it hard to have a "real" relationship. That's probably why they don't talk to each other. I remember it took like a week or two before boys even got enough guts to hold a girl's hand.

Take it with a grain of salt. No one remembers these pseudo-relationships when you reach high school or after. They will remain insignificant until you reminisce one day and laugh at how silly it was.

Many kids start "going out" with each other at a young age but they don't really know what to do until 7th or 8th grade.

I think people should be old enough to understand what dating is before they try it. As far as not being able to talk to each other, that is also a part of maturity.

I think this is an older more mature game of dress up. Little kids like to dress up in adults clothing and pretend their grownup. I think this is the same concept just in a more mature way.
