If I owe 6k on a credit card, but can't afford to pay it, and the court has awarded a judgement, what are the (realistic) chances that the creditor will simply write off the debt?

    There is not enough information in this equation I think. The main determining factor is what all do you own. If you own a house, I would never write off your debt, thinking that at some point in time, the house might be sold. And then of course, you would not be able to collect from the sale of your home until my judgement was paid off. I am holding several of these judgements now. I may never be able to cash them in, or I could get a phone call some time even a decade or more from now. Better than the lottery.
