Yes. Reportedly, the population is 50,000 in the summer and 6,000 in the winter.

Thanks roadpup2! Wow! That is a whole bunch of tourists! It will be good for your community, bringing in all that much needed revenue.
Avatar roadpup2 Sep, 01 2008 at 12:49 PM
It's a major business here. We have a boardwalk, beach, etc. It's the Jersey Shore--we exist for the summer.

Thanks doggie S! That's too bad. I think tourists provide us with an insight of other cultures. Plus, the money they spend is a big boost to the local economy.

We have some tourists coming here during the summer to go to the beach on South Padre Island, TX. Most of our tourists come during the winter when the snow is deep and the temps low up north.

Thanks Thinker!I didn't realize that Texas was a hot spot for tourists in the winter.Interesting.
Avatar Thinker Aug, 28 2008 at 08:33 PM
You are welcome...Texas will have over 280,000 "Winter Texans" during the winter. There is much to do here and is more laid back than say Florida. Also our citrus is much better!
Is the n.s. in your name because you are a nufee? I used to live in Canada and miss it very much. Oh and I have an 8 yr old shuit-zu....

The Gulf Coast of Florida has plenty of tourists this summer as people from the USA are staying domestic rather than going international.

Thanks TRAVEL SLUT! Probably due to the poor economic situation in the US. We haven't seen that many US visitors on the east coast of Canada this year like we have in previous years. That could be because the high gas prices and the fact that US citizens are not getting the GST refund like in previous years.
Avatar THE TRAVEL SLUT Aug, 25 2008 at 07:30 PM
Those are EXACTLY the reasons...

Yes. The population of the Island where I live quadruples during the season. Lots of folk have summer homes here...and many come to stay for a week or two and rent a cottage. Still others come with RVs or trailers and stay at one of our RV parks.
Tourism is one of our 2 main economic bases. The other is the production of Maple Syrup.
St. Joseph Island maple syrup is shipped all over the world.

Thanks jangobean! Wow, I can't believe you have no tourists in the beautiful city of Manchester.
Avatar jangobean Aug, 28 2008 at 11:50 AM
I live on the outskirts of Manchester, near a town called Oldham.
Manchester does have a few tourists, but not many to be honest.
Avatar marsha in n.s. Aug, 28 2008 at 03:11 PM
My Mother is formerly from Darlington. Is that far from Manchester?

We never have tourists visit us. We normally have alot of them that pass through however. The number seems a bit down this season.

We don't attract many tourists around here but I think there's a lot going on in Connecticut right now.

There are free concerts on the greens in many of the towns at night. The country fairs are great around here and so are some of the arts and crafts shows. The autumn foliage will attract a lot of the gawkers who drive into our state every fall from New York.

Thanks sm00z! Do you live in New Hampshire? I love country fairs. We get many tourists here in Nova Scotia during the fall too, to see the fall foilage. We call our country fairs, exhibitions here in Canada. I attended one just last week in a neighbouring town. Our exhibition begins September 3rd.
Avatar sm00z Aug, 27 2008 at 03:06 PM
You're welcome, marsha. I live in Connecticut which is next door to New York state. The weather here is going to be gorgeous every day this week so the country fairs will probably be getting record setting crowds this weekend.:)

Oh I wish I was there. Nice weather and a country fair, what could be better.
