Why is John rarely seen in the show?

    After the puppet makers completed the five brothers, Producer Gerry Anderson somehow was very displeased with the looks of John. Then and there he decided John would be banished to a life of solitude on Thunderbird 5.

    Out of 33 episodes, John appeared in only one rescue, Danger at Ocean Deep. At the end of the episode, John is harshly reprimanded by father Jeff Tracy for daring to suggest an alternative to the rescue plan. Worse still, John barely appears in the final episode. It takes place on Christmas day, the entire Tracy family is around the tree...except for John who is stuck in orbit. Anderson disliked the character that much!
