Personally, I use dupe checks... I don't have to remember to write it in the register, online banking takes care of that, and I have the dupe to show I wrote it if I need it.

It's terrible. Convenient but so bad. I used to know at any given point how much I had, right down to the penny, but since I got a debit card it's pretty common that I have little idea. Use the card, try to remember what you spent.... Yeah, right!

Better a debit card than a credit card. :-)

Credit is awesome if used wisely but not everyone uses them wisely. It's easy to dig yourself a hole but it's really tough to get out of it.

Debit cards are handy, and for a while, I was keeping track of those charges in my check register. (It's easier than a check... You only have to write it once!) And, you're right about credit cards. Even those who have been stung by overusing them, still have problems using them and staying "within their means"... Medical bills, prescriptions, gas, required food, etc., all add up over time, if you can't keep it paid down.

The advantage of the dupes is you don't have to write the info in the register until later... It's all on the dupe. Disadvantage is that you DON'T always write it in the register, later.

You sound like me, but I use the dupes, my wife uses regular. The dupes are handy when you're in a rush and don't want to take time to fill out the register (like there's a like behind you or something), when you DO have to write them.

Oh, but it's so convenient... Some you can have simply automatically withdraw, and others you tell the bank who and how much to write the check for and THEY handle it all.

I guess that would depend on your bank and their security, and whether you are susceptible to scams in your email. For the latter, I have a page ( http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2s_scams_spoofphishing_home.shtml ) that I hope helps. As for the former, I would hope your bank would help you if their security was breached. I've been using online banking for at least a couple of years, and have had no problem.

My bank tries to assure me that they are the most secure in the business... that fact alone gives me reason to suspect that the hackers and the computer Gods... will eventually get pissed at their smug assumptions and do something to change that just because they can.

It nice... The bank either electronically transfers the check, or sends them (sometimes free). All you have to do is tell them who and how much.

I think it usually depends on if you pay a monthly maintenance fee... And even then, when you order new checks they charge you for them (at MY bank, anyway!) ;-)
