Question

Help answer this question below.

I was banned from Yahoo answers. I was not even given a reason or warning. I did not feel any of my answers were ban worthy. When I appealed, asking only for the reason I was banned, I did not receive a reply.

Do situations like that happen here?

No one except obvious spammers (the commercial type) get banned with no warning. All 'real' members are given warnings and they always have a chance to contact the staff and talk with them. Here, people get sent to the Penalty Box, usually being warned about their behavior first. Usually it's just for 3 days. Some people have been in the PB 4-8 times and they are STILL not banned from here. It's all in the attitude and how respectful you are.

Yahoo is disgusting....I was the No. 1 contributor in one Section...on Level 6, after 18 months...the trolls started going at full steam and I was banned. I appealed, after six weeks of fighting I was reinstaed for three weeks and banned again.

I enjoy it here. There are rules but not draconian with evil moderators a la Yahoo...

I don't know if they happen here but i left there because my good friend Da Ben Dan was banned too with out explination. It was due to the Trolls they have here. Answerbag is a wonderful place to be and i can tell you it is 100% better than Yahoo answers.

Ever since the Yahoo management abandoned Y!A to the (YAMM) Yahoo Automated Monster Machine, there are going to be complaints like this. It is not only Y!A where this happens, many other Yahoo services are automated and your account can vanish with no warning or appeal what so ever. This is why any business person who does not want to risk losing everything will not use Yahoo services.

Here on AB, I have seen some complaints from people claiming they were unfairly treated, or favoritism, but they are few and far between. Disputes are handled by human people, and are mediated behind the scenes. I hope this does not change as the site continues to grow, and will soon outstrip the ability of the staff to do their job, just like it did with Y!A.

    Not nearly as much.

Here there is a "Penalty Box," which is like a space to cool off if you have gone against the User Agreement [I'm told].

The main difference is that there is actual customer service here, performed by wonderful, caring humans, instead of the Y!A bots. So you are a lot less likely to be banned without cause.

    Welcome and good luck!

That is happening to a lot of people on YA..and you will never get a reply. I got 2 VN for questions that there were nothing wrong with. When I appealed I begged for a reason. They didn't even read the appeal. It was the standard. computer letter "your VN stands. YA no longer cares that their site is a joke. It caters to trolls and advertisers. you will never get a violation here UNLESS it is verified first. customer service is people NOT computer. It's wonderful. Trolls are here but it's quickly taken care of and spam is quickly taken care of. this site is wonderful. I wasn't a member here but 2-3 days and I was shocked at how wonderful it was. People do DR you just like on YA but this site has some of the nicest people who will ever meet. On YA, you ask a question and 99% of the answers are rude. on here you may get 1 answer that is rude.. just watch out for contraversial topics: politics, religion, etc. Welcome aboard

I too was banned from YA with no explination nor appeal. There are many on there who think it is their sworn duty to disagree with you and report you for no reason.
These are world wide sites...what may be illegal in one country could be legal in another. what one person may not like another may. I have said time and again if you don't agree with an answer or question move on to one you do agree with.
So far I have found things here on AB more pleasent.

I think you have to seriously break the rules here to get banned and it is done by a real person. I also think that you are given several chances before being banned. People can flag your Q&A, but before it is removed it is reviewed by the staff. I know of a couple of people who were banned, I don't know why and don't want to know, but for the most part, if rules are broken, warnings are given and the culprit may find himself/herself in the penaly box for a short time (account suspended). I think repeated spamming (one user posted the same vulgar answer over 100 times), being consistantly rude, inflammatory, abusive and vulgar are grounds for having your account removed.
You are going to run into trolls, rude, vulgar and abusive people here but it the exception rather than the rule. I have met some really wonderful people here and they make the whole experience worthwhile.
Welcome to AB and I hope you come to like it here as much as I have! :-)

I was watching people get banned on Y!A for no obvious reason. Then they began deleting member Yahoo mail accounts and I.M. accounts for something they supposedly did in the Answers site! No explanations given. No appeal.
I packed up my marbles and left when it became obvious I could lose a lot of my stuff if someone decided they didn't like my avatar, or some silly answer. I found Answerbag and have enjoyed it very much. There are always personalities that clash and issues that don't suit everyone, but the guys who own and run this site are involved and try to be fair. It is a lot more fun than Y!A too. You can explore an issue here, beyond a simple one-shot answer. Some conversations get pretty big, but it is all in fun and I like to think we are all learning from it.
    Welcome aboard!

Yahoo answers did you a big favor by banning you. I have heard nothing but horror stories from that site.

I have never been PB'ed here in over a year. I think you have to do something quite bad on AB to get put in a Penalty Box and at that, it's only for a few days.

I do not believe so. The staff is very dedicated here, and they will tell you what the problem is. First off, Im sure a community leader will try to help as much as possible, when the issue extends beyond their grasp, the staff will step in, and they do respond to emails as well, with real messages...
    I hope this helps!

I am sorry you had that experience, but you shall never lack company :) There are things that can get you into a heap of trouble on AB, But I don't think I have ver heard of anyone being banned. We are firm AND fair. Trolls exist wherever humanity exists. But they are a very small minority here. If it were any different, I would have told you.

    redcatt63 is around here somewhere......

Yahoo Answers is a joke. Everything is automated, there are no "real" people in customer service. All a troll has to do is send a bunch of false abuse reports, and voila! Your account is suspended. I have several friends that this happened to. They tried to appeal, but got automated replies...within a couple of minutes...saying their account had been reviewed and was still found in violation. Yeah, right! One of my friends found AB and told the rest of us. We left and never went back. Some of the more notorius Yahoo trolls followed us here and try to wreak the same havoc, but AB usually takes care of them very quickly. Too bad they can't actually ban them by their IP addresses, as the worst of them have dozens of sockpuppet accounts.

    Im BACK

I want to tell you about my experience on Yahoo Answers and on Answerbag.

I have no idea why you got banned or your account got suspended.

For all you Answerbag users who claim that the customer service is wonderful and are actual humans, then you might be very mistaken.
I have nothing against Answerbag. My experiences here have been wonderful and bad.

I have been on the Penalty Box two times. The Penalty Box is when your account gets suspended temporarily because you violated the terms and conditions on the Answerbag website. Yahoo doesn't have a Penalty Box; only Answerbag does.

I did appeal to them, writing them a formal e-mail about why I had my account suspended temporarily. They did not reply back, but let me have my account back twelve hours before my alloted punishment time was up. I had my account suspended two times for arguing and "spamming".

My account was never suspended from Yahoo! but I did write to them about the trolls on the site. A few of my questions have been deleted, and Yahoo! actually answers to me.

If you believe that Answerbag is not full of trolls and rude answers, then you haven't been here long enough. Yes, people do flag questions on Answerbag. It is when you report the question and get it removed from the site. I've had many of my questions removed from the Answerbag site and they are not violating the terms and conditions.Anyone can flag questions just as a much as people on Yahoo! Answers can report it. The Answerbag website just like Yahoo! Answers, except more cleaner and more friendlier people.

Downrate me if you want but its the truth.

I was banned from Yahoo Answers last April for asking questions like: 1.Is it normal for a man to masturbate and orgasm while getting a rectal exam at the doctor's office?-Violation Reason: Adult 2. Is it normal to do so while having these sexual desires?-Violation Reason: Adult
(I masturbate visualizing about pap smears and rectal suppositories being performed. Is it normal to do so?)
    3. Is it normal for me to masturbate and orgasm while I get a panty less exam at the doctor's office? (That question got deleted within about 3 minutes right before I was going to read the answers that I received.)-Violation Reason: (blank<Adult-The question got declined too after appealing it by email.> I had to go to medical sites that will answer questions like that so it won't happen to me ever again!

I spent the past two years on QnA Live. During that time many members were banned, most of which deserved it ... up until this year. Then solid contributors began getting axed.

The latest bannings were due to a QnA Team with little tolerance or understanding of how QnA had functioned for the previous year. I left in disgust in July for these and other reasons.

A former QnAer suggested that I investigate AnswerBag.

I think that AnswerBag is a vastly superior forum.

I was banned from Yahoo Answers I had about 1,500 points I asked how a mother that I know could get her daughters Macbook password because of the things the daughter is doing.

I was on Level 3 without warning was banned because the first guy to answer my question freaked out and say "That is illegal you can not do that that against the law I am reporting you" I didn't think anything of it till I was suspended and have now appealed twice and will keep trying I was on their for over a year without being reported once I don't understand why all the sudden I can be banned without the "review" their terms of service state. I was very helpful in the contact lens forum answering many questions and getting best answers since I know so much about contacts.

Yahoo Question and Answers gets a lot of trolls who just

go beserk and sometime put in innocent people to have a

violation~~the Yahoo does not check these trolls and if

more then two people complain~~then the person is sent

    a violation notice

I have gotten to level seven about three time or four?

well you can't really fight with Yahoo~~they say you can

but it is an exercise in futility....but you can make

    another account in five minutes

Right now in Government and in eletions sections it is all

about Barack Obama and the Democrats fighting with the

Republicans~! before the election it was mostly PRO OBAMA

Now it is 75 or 80% anti Obama ~~but I think there is a lot

of trolls and the Violations are over racism and stupid talk

I am the yahoo police from Yahoo and I reported people for the following reasons.
I am one of the Yahoo Policemen helping to keep Yahoo a better place for everyone. I am not trying to troll Yahoo. I am trying to improve the standards of Yahoo. I honestly do not report on bias or to hurt someone. I follow these standards which are all Yahoo guidelines.
    1. Inappropriate question which I list as INP.
    2. Profanity
    3. Sexual content
    4. Swearing(Only if it is being used as an insult or in excess.)
    5. Violence or images with bad depicts or sexuality.
    6. Someone asks for contact(I usually leave a comment instead or it may be better to email the person.)
    7. Chatting(This of little concern because it is not really a problem.)
    8. Rants(eiwbfiuibfiefbibifbfeb)
    9. A question that is (clearly) not a question.
    10. Repeat posts
    11. Posting in too many capital letters.
    12. Off topic post
    13. A person offers points.
    I usually do not report:
    1. Long posts
    2. Religious posts
    3. Poems
    4. Personal posts
    5. Political posts
    6. "Am I pretty" questions get deleted (if they have sexual profanity) or have appeared before. Please note: There can be many other reasons why.
    7. A person may have a second account.(People usually start second accounts because of computer errors.)
Please try to follow these guidelines.
    I'll be around.
