jt007m's answers were very good. I'd add to that just a couple of things.

    (1) Take some cough drops, mints, or something to pop in your mouth in case you get the urge to cough. You may not be coughing now, but that could change.

    (2)Listen with anticipation.

    (3) Show appreciation with applause whther you liked the performance or not. The people on stage are real live human beings with feelings.

    (4) Have a great time.

Dress for events like these have become more and more casual, but if possible, it's better to get as dressed up as possible. No crazy patterns or bright colors. They can be distracting - for the audience and the people on stage.

For concerts - know when to applaud (the conductor/pianst places his hands on his lap or sides)

No talking - even whispers add up if hundreds of people are doing it.

When you're not reading your playbill, place it under your seat. The crinkling paper is very distracting.

During intermission, leave the auditorium. This is a break for performers and watchers, but the crew may have to do work in the catwalks or on stage. They don't want you to see them... it ruins the effect seeing the show.

If you meet and greet after the show, try to keep conversation quick. These folks wanna get to the party or home. Also, some concert musicians and conductors are weird about shaking hands. Let them lead in to make sure it's ok.

Wear proper cloths like blouse and skirt or maybe a dress, and never wear sandals and shorts! (wear shoes), and maybe dress up a bit because it is a formal event

    do:
keep silent and if you have yo talk..just whisper, silent all your electronic divices, appreciate the performer by clapping before and after their performance (whether it good or bad)

    don't:
talk loudly, cough and throw snot (you'd better get out from the hall to do it), take a picture with blits, open candies (because the wrapper is noisy when you try to open it..you'd better eat easier opened candies), don't bring eat and drink inside hall (maybe except candies?)
