583 people died when two Passenger holiday flights collided at Tenerife Airport, in the Canary Islands The Airport is situated so that the approach is between the Mountains. It was March 27th 1977, I believe they had a second bad crash there later the same year. Obviously over 2000 people died as a result of the 9/11 crashes but that was not accidental.
