I believe you can make one of these "wave" bottles using dyed water and baby oil. I didn't research this, but I seem to remember seeing this on a science experiment site. I hope this helps.

Add food coloring to the water and fill the jar halfway with it, then fill the jar the rest of the way with either baby oil, paint thinner or salad oil.thatS all there is to it....

I think you can use mineral oil also and food color and water. I also think you add slightly more water then oil or it doesnt wave right.

I did this a long time ago and every "recipe" I've read lately leaves out the alcohol; I'm almost sure it's water, oil and alcohol in some proportion (or could the 3rd ingredient be acetone? Experiment with alcohol, acetone, and of course the amount of all three ingredients).

Half distilled water, half paint thinner, and dye. Blue if you want the ocean. Seal and tape over bottle cap with duct tape. You don't want small children to open and drink it. It will not grow bacteria.

Any combination of liquids that do not mix will work in this situation...oil and water, water and alchohol...dye one or dye both in contrasting colors!
