  • honesty is always the best policy
  • It would probably take the majority of the rest of the team to tell this person, en masse, that they're not pulling their weight, otherwise your comment won't carry any weight.
  • How would you feel if another employee approached you and said you weren't pulling your weight? Right! You'd immediately be offended, go into a defensive mode and look at that person as someone to be avoided or denounced. I think that is a very tricky, dangerous proposition and if management couldn't see it, I'd say nothing. If the goal is to get the job done, then alienating one of the team won't be helpful, could be harmful...especially if everyone doesn't share your views! Happy Wednesday! :) ((hugs))
  • Can the team project be set up where each person has a certain amount of work to accomplish themselves? Nothing made me more accountable then Monday morning group meetings where I had to give an accounting of the previous weeks assignments and what percentage it was complete. Think of a pie cut into six pieces. Give each employee a piece of the project. Example, someone does research, someone develops marketing strategies, another does web design, etc.
  • I'm in the position your boss is in. I'm pretty laid back and I rarely get on anyone's case. They all know what their jobs are. If there are any issues i mostly allow the other employees to get on that persons case. I only step in if it becomes too agressive. They are pretty much self-regulating. That's good for me.
  • Can you explain how your work is held up by that person not pulling their weight? Even like a "hey I know the boss said so and so, and I hate to say it but I've stuggling to get 'X' done because you're taking so long on 'Y'. Can you pressure the boss? He/She needs to sit down and have the 'are you sure this job is for you' talk. I've had to do it to some of my employees and some leave afterwords. Your boss is letting the whole team down, by not dealing with this person.
