  • Sounds like a bad brake light switch. That would be the easiest route as of now. If that does not solve the problem here we go. You are grounding out the areas you mentioned when using the brake. Start pulling fuses one at a time and see which circuitwhen disconnested lets the system function as it should. Start with the brake light fuse. Mr Bill
  • There is a short between one of your brake light power wires and one of the running light wires. Does the vehicle have combination tail/brake lights? If so pull the bulbs and make sure that the contacts aren't bent and touching.
  • I have seen an issue almost like yours and am currently having a little different issue on my 2002 optima were when I step on the brake my clock flickers and the radio cuts out for a second. In the kia forums it is said to be a bad connection of the main ground wire. The wire is located under the airbox and to get to it you need to remove the battery. Remove the wire from the frame and clean the end with some sandpaper as well as the contact point on the frame. The spot were it connects to the frame needs to be sanded to bare metal then reattach the cable to the frame. This solution was submitted by a kia mechanic who stated he has fixed this issue on at least 10 optimas so far. Hope this helps! I am doing mine this weekend!
