Are there any? Isnt health care socialized? I think its a great idea. The medical field should not be a for-profit organization, and treatment should not be based on affordability. Unfortunately, without profits there is no funding, really, aside from government funding and research grants and donation. Which means medical research will be stunted. Or would it? I imagine most profits go into the pockets of the doctors, not back into research. I guess that is the only downfall though. I guess research itself should be socialized in terms of adequate funding for all legit research, possibly weighed on necessity. I think most things should be socialized or communized anyway. Thats right, I said it. Society and peoples values should not be based on material wealth. Money is power, a lucrative power. Its just as corrupted an authority as any pre-existing attempt at communism.

A very looooong waiting list...

im canadian and the only thing i can think of is ER waiting times[usually about 8 hours]. but i don tknow what americans wait, and anyone can get treated here so id still rather ours even with the wait time

Some places in Canada suffer from constant strikes and staff shortage, so waiting lists can be long, and not all hospitals seem to have adequate equipment. Not a complaint though, far from it.

One of the biggest problems with Canada's health care system is the wait, especially on elective type surgeries. Things like hip replacements often have wait lists of years before you can get in to have the procedure done. I have a friend in Canada that went into the emergency room for a broken arm. He waited 6 hours to see a doctor and was told it would be 3 days before they could set it. He ended up having to have surgery down the line to break and reset the bone properly. Similar cases happen in the US, but they are on a much larger scale in Canada. I had another friend that had to wait 3 months for a very painful root canal. They are trying to combat the problem by loosening restrictions on private practice physicians, but the progress is slow and the final results are going to be questionable. Either it won't work with their system and the current problems stay, or it does work but they have to completely redesign the infrastructure of their system. Canada also is dealing with an aging population of baby boomers like the US, which will cause a big financial strain the the government, which will then be passed off to the citizens.

The only thing I can think of that hasn't been said is that there is no compitition. Therefore some docrtors are mediocor and we are stuck with them.If there was a fight to get the high paying customer maybe they would strive to better themselves. My brother had to have surgery with a plastic surgeon and a bone surgeon(I think orthopedic?)The one Dr couldnt do it for another two months so my brother said, then get someone else. That Dr canceled a speech she was going to do because she wanted the money from my brother. But I still would rather my way then his(canadian VS american)

My brother~in~law needed surgery, and in the United States he would of got it immediately, but because he lives in Canada he was not allowed to, and was put on a waiting list instead, it was three months before his name came up, but the suffering both him, and my sister went through is something none of us will ever forget.
