Can a person be sane and insane? Or is it just one or the other?

    it would all depend if they were schizophrenic, their alter ego may be the sane one or the insane one

    i guess that would need qualification. if it's legal insanity, it takes an outside professional to put a stamp on it, but if you mean in the normal, everyday way we use the term, i'd say lots of folks act both 'sane' and 'insane' all the time.

    besides a medical predisposition because of an actual bi-polar condition- most the the rest of what we look upon as 'aberrant' behavior in others- are things triggered by some circumstance in which they feel threatened in one way or another.

    lots of perfectly 'sane' people, become 'insanely jealous' or 'insanely angry' over specific events in their lives.

    if it's EXTREME, frequent, and what appears to be totally illogical and uncontrollable- and in particular if it's behavior that's harming themselves or others- it's time to seek a professional assessment.

    otherwise, the behavior is probably the non-medical but misunderstood up and downs we all go through as precipitated by life events.
