  • I am not sure about the nose thing but I do know that with most birds the brighter, deeper colors are on the males.
  • You can sex budgies by the color of their cere, that band just above their beak where their nostril holes are. You do have to wait for them to be mature to tell this, as young birds aren't colored enough to tell. Hens should be a brown or a buff color. Cock birds are more bluish colored, except for some color varieties where it is sort of purplish. • The Cere of a parakeet is the "bump" above her beak - and is in essence her nose. There are two holes in it that she breathes through. The cere lets a parakeet breathe and smell. When parakeets are babies the ceres are often just blue. As parakeets age the ceres usually mature to certain colors based on their sex. Female parakeets develop brown or pink ceres. Male parakeets develop blue ceres. Of course, there are many ceres that are in-between colors. The only real way to know the sex of a parakeet is to take it to your vet and ask! --SOURCE: http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/wingclaw/cere.html P.S. When we had parakeets, this proved to be true.
  • helo, yes the little area above their beak is called the cere,i heard if its a pinkish or lavender color, its a female,a brown or rusty color or a light blue is a male, but you really cant tell unril the budgie is olderi got my 2 budgies a little over a year ago,the colors keep changing, its hard to tell whos what.
  • If you bought the birds from a breeder, they could tell you from experience; otherwise only t6ime will tell. Female keets sometimes have blue ceres as well, but it is a paler blue--a male's cere is a deep royal blue.
  • About the parakeet photos, I have a cockateil,so it was kind of hard for me to distinguish it to my bird,so if i may can I do the same for my cockatiel also?
