Because of my mental health issues, sometimes I feel like no guy will ever want me because they think I'll make an unfit mother. Is this a weird thought?

Having mental health issues covers a very wide range. That can mean anything from a phobia to mild depression or something much more serious,

You do not sound as if you are severely mentally crippled .
I am sure you will one day find somebody who cares about you .

I wouldn't call this valid or crazy, because it's neither. It's a false assumption. You can't assume that EVERY guy you meet will think you're an unfit mother. Just try to go into a relationship without assuming or expecting anything and you will be much better off.

I don't think that it is valid or or crazy. I can understand the concern but my advice would be to try to focus on you and your health so WHEN someone comes aleong you can be your best you :) Otherwise you my end up with some loser who sees your concerns and tries to take advantage of you. I wish the best for you :)

It's not a weird thought. You have reason to have concern if this is what your life experience has brought you to date. Also, it's a reality that your child would have a higher chance of having a mental illness. Perhaps, it would be a good idea to consider whether this concern is about another guy never wanting you or whether this concern is about your ability to be a fit mother. Just something to think about.

If he wants you bad enough he will help you deal with the illness that you have. If he's too ignorant to know that it's an illness then you could teach him. I don't think people think about what type of parent their spouse would be. Love will prevail.

My ex did it to me and killed the rest of my life and I can certainly understand your fear. The thing is that you just can't play it safe. Life is about taking chances. Just take it slow and really pay attention to what is going on around you when it comes to a prospective partner.

I think you place too much emphasis on it being mental health issues. There is a time when most of us think that we are not fit to be parents. I hated myself, and even tried to commit suicide when I was 18. Then, when my son was born, my whole life turned around, because when I saw what a perfect baby I had, I resolved to be the Mom he deserved.

Not a weird thought, not a good idea to advertise it to a guy though. Save the concerns about your mental health for your mental health care professional, I do, and it works for me.

There was a movie that came out with a tag line stupid is as stupid does. Because someone is labeled as having a mental illness doesn't make them unfit. Look at all the people who are labeled normal that beat on even kill their children. It is all in the actions you choose to use. and being up front about it allows guys to make the choice to be with you. The one that chooses yes will find himself better for saying yes.
