When you are BROKE, really broke, like your checking account has $0.34 cents in it, do your friends get mad at you for not joining them and think you are just trying to bow out of social activities like going out to eat?

No. I just tell them I don't have the money to go out. They don't get mad--sometimes they're in the same place.

No. REAL friends wouldn't get mad. They would offer a loan or a 'treat', knowing that if they were broke I'd do the same.

My friends know that I can be very creative when I cannot spend money. I don't have to sacrifice getting together with them just because I cannot afford to buy things :)

What friends? My wife is my friend. When we're broke we play "spite and malice" or spades or cribbage, scrabble, dominoes, etc. I tried teaching her Texas Hold-em but she took all my money so we don't play that anymore.

- Well, I didn't have any more money to play with. Actually, I didn't have a lot to start with and she took all that. And, wouldn't give any back, either. She keeps it in this stupid little jar in case I become insane enough to try and win it back.

- That woman is the luckiest person with cards on the planet. I have been playing cribbage for over 50 years. (I won't say how much over) I taught her how to play. I have had one perfect hand in all those years. She had two within a week. I have never been double-skunked and have played this game for fair amounts of money...she has double skunked me twice. It doesn't matter the game...she just has some kind of genie hanging around with her (I think it's my dad...he thought she was wonderful.)
