Escort zx2 2002 only thing I can find that is suspisious it alot of hot air is coming out of the oil cap hole when taken off when the car is runing. If left off it idles better ,if put back on it back pressures and putters again?

• I'm sorry to hear that, and that I couldn't help you more..I would think this would have gave you more symptoms than just an idle problem..but it does make sense if your intake cam jumped. There is alot of variables to some runnability problems that aren't easy to pinpoint without actually seeing it in front of you. At least it wasn't the worse case seniario..Timing belts aren't easy to do for the average joe unless you have the proper tooling and manual to help you.

• I hope four your sake this isn't the case. that would be worst case senerio, depends on mileage of car and up keep, { regular oil changes ect..}that would cause bad rings, does it consume oil and not leak it? It probably is leaking oil out of everything if there is excessive crankcase pressure...Was oil level kept up because of this? any blue smoke from exaust? How many miles on vehicle..If it is bad rings normally the recogmended repair is to drop in a rebuilt engine with a warranty..but make sure someone does the proper tests on the car before you condem it to this..hope this helped, call around and get estimates at different places, find the best value, best warranty.
