I would celebrate the day the papers were signed, not to say that it wouldn't be fun for a special dinner in January.. xoxox

Wow !! It would be nice to celebrate in January when you had your wedding. :) Why not celebrate both months ???

My partner and I have 2 anniversaries we celebrate - one for when we met (which is where we really started our relationship...) and a wedding anniversary from when we were married in a religious (non-state recognized) ceremony in Washington DC with 30,000 other couples during the March On Washington. We're going to married in a state-recognized ceremony next month (15 years after our first one) so I guess now we'll have THREE anniversaries. I say, celebrate them all! You are the only person to make the rules for your life, and you cannot have too many celebrations! Mazel Tov!

Twice is nice. I'd do both. Lucky you!

Why not choose Oct as a private party since it was just the two of you and Jan as a party to celebrate with friends? Sounds great to me!
