Peachy Canyon makes an incredible zin. Also, Rancho Zabaco is very good as well. The year, for me, is kind of a shot in the dark - 97 was a great year for California wines, but the prices for that year are getting a little steep unless it's a special occasion.

Plenty of great zins to try in the US (I really like Trinitas), but you might also try California Petite Sirah, Italian reds from Puglia (most often blends, but look for Negroamaro, Primitivo), also Italian Aglianico and Sagrantino, and finally (but not least) Argentine Malbec. And that's just a start. :)
