  • I think that's absolutely ridiculous. That's blaming women for a man committing one of the worst crimes one can commit. Because I'm wearing a short skirt, doesn't mean i'm inviting you to rape me.
  • no, no, and no again, i put it all down to lack of respect in society, generally :(
  • While I'm no fan of the clothing some young girls with low self respect wear, it has little to do with rape. Rape is a crime of rage, power and domination. It's considered a violent crime because it centers around inflicting violence, not gaining sexual pleasure.
  • Girls, women, whatever... It is ridiculous to suggest that rape is necessarily related to the way a woman or girl is dressed. Partly because that would be implying that you blame the girl for what happened for dressing that way.
  • I recently read Female Chauvinist Pigs, Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture (largely about young white women), and I'm finishing, Pimps Up, Ho's Down, Hip Hop's Hold on Young Black Women. (Both excellent books.) Rape is on the rise (a woman's raped every 2 minutes in the U.S.) for much darker and much more complicated reasons than trends in clothing.
  • Sexy clothing doesn't have to do with raping. It's an excuse of the type i didn't notice the wall and that's why i ran onto it,so it's the wall's fault for being there.
  • Serial Rape has nothing to do with how anyone dresses. Rape is a habitual, compulsive, agressive need to hurt, to dominate and to control. Someone who rapes someone is mentally ill, socially corrupt, in need of help and has their boundaries way off base. They were probably abused themselves, probably have little to no respect for the sex of the person they chose to rape for whatever reason (it happens to men as well as women) But most importantly it is usually because in their own pain, and their own situation specifics, there was a situation set up in their past where their was a lack of control, or power that led to a feeling of weakness in the perp. That feeling of weakness brings shame and that causes them to lash out and hurt someone weaker then they are in order to justify and kind of release themof their shame or their impulse to do it in the first place, usually a vicious circle that turns around itself. If it has anything at all to do with how the victim dresses, that was specific to that particular rapists psyche and a integrated part of their specific problem.
  • ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! Expert psychologists define rape as a form of assault where one individual forces another to have sexual intercourse against that person's will. Most experts believe the primary cause of rape is an aggressive desire to dominate the victim rather than an attempt to achieve sexual fulfillment. They consider rape an act of violence rather than principally a sexual encounter. One commonly believed myth is that rape is primarily a sexual act. Persons with this belief often unintentionally place the victim on trial. Her motives, her dress and her actions become suspect not only to law enforcement officials but also to her family and friends. The woman’s credibility may be questioned and her sexual activity and private life may be made public. Perhaps because of the guilt, embarrassment and humiliation, rape has been a highly underreported crime. However, throughout the past 20 years a variety of psychologists and sociologists have begun to study the psychology of rape and rapists. Their findings have shown that rape is a crime of violence, often regarded by the woman as a life-threatening act in which fear and humiliation are her dominant emotions. Sexual desire is less a motivation for the man than violent aggression. Rapists fall into 2 categories which he labeled “criminal” and “psychiatric”. The criminal rapist he viewed as a poorly educated man from the lower socioeconomic level who had a criminal record of offenses such as exhibitionism, fetishism, etc. He saw him as generally antisocial and easily influenced by his peers. The psychiatric rapist was viewed as a well educated man from a higher economic bracket. He was believed to rape because of some personal problems or inadequacy and he may feel remorse after the assault.
  • When a girl looks sexy or flirty, she is saying..."LOOK at me" not!! rape me!!!!!!!!!! Rape is not sex, it's cruel, and a violent act!
  • no! clothes don't cause rape, violent psychotic criminals do...
  • No. Rape is all about domination and pain. It has very little to do with the sexual aspect. When I was raped, all he wanted was for me to be in pain. He didn't care if I was the ugliest girl on earth, he just wanted to see someone in pain, and he wanted to dominate someone.
  • Rape isn't really associated with sexual desire as much as it is with psychological needs for dominance or to satisfy one's inner turmoil, lack of control or dealing with one's fear and anger. The clothing may invite exploitation of advantages on a young women's innocence or lack of sense, which can be bad on its own and is more closely related to sexual issues, but it isn't rape. There always HAS been rape, but for the most part of human history, women were treated as inferior and didn't speak out, and in many places it was deemed as normal, and in some, it still is. But today women speak out as much as men and have equal rights, so it may just seem that there's more rape cases.
  • It's ridiculous to try and pin the blame on the victims. Of course it's not the fault of how they dress. The blame lies with the rapist who committed the crime.
  • No the girls are not really wearing anything less than they have since the sixties. men when its hot can walk round in just thier shorts and noone says that they are asking to be raped. Its the rapists fault not the victims, no matter what they were wearing. people saying its the victims fault because of what they were wearing is why most rapes go unreported.
  • While I do think that a lot of the clothing young girls wear is inappropriate and too sexy, it's not fair at all to say that rapes are on the rise bacause of it.
  • While I agree clothing has been getting more provocative over the years, I don't think you can justify such a horrendous crime by blaming the clothing (or lack thereof). For me the sexiest feature of a women that I find interesting has always been her eyes.
  • When they wear micro skirts with nothing under neath they are inviting something!
  • Heck no. Rape is a crime of control, not sex. The girls who dress that way are just saying, 'look at me, I know how to dress like a prostitute.'
  • I'll admitt that the girls clothing is too revealing - BUT rape is sin and the result of a person's wicked nature.
  • No, rape is on the rise because more people are reporting it and there are more people to be raped.
  • Here's a better question: Is it really true that the act of rape is on the rise....or that more and more women are actually finding the courage to REPORT that they were raped?
  • Clothing has nothing to do with the vast majority of sexual assault cases and rape only appears to be on the rise because there is now legal protection in place that favors victims and more are coming forward to report.
  • Young girls??? are men ONLY targeting young girls?? well..anyway..check out the poll results on the following site... you have my answer in that http://www.ask500people.com/questions/why-are-more-women-physically-abusedraped
  • I think it would be more likely because of the dehumanizing of women through media such as rap music, some video games and some movies. Of course, the sexualization of children certainly contributes.
  • I believe some girls entice guys but no one deserves rape. I feel the parents need to get involved.
  • I believe girls should consider modesty And style when picking out clothes, but no, that's NOT the reason. More people seem to have problems and more people are speaking up.
  • no. Rape has nothing to do with sex..It has everything to do with power.
  • No there is just alot of sick and dicussing perverts out there.
  • "Rapists look for victims they perceive as vulnerable, not women who dress in a particular way." If there was some kind of correlation between what a woman wears and the frequency of rape, I would think a little harder about your question, but as far I know there is not. http://www.d.umn.edu/cla/faculty/jhamlin/3925/myths.html
  • I would think it's on a slight decline since more women can defend themselves with modern stuff like mace, and tasers, and encouraged to report it. Unlike in the past when they would just have to take it, and it was easier to get away with rape, and women would keep quite.
  • no!!!! a person should be able to control themselves around unconsenting individuals. its a psychological mishap
  • I don't think it has anything to do with the way young girls dress. I don't really think girls dress any mor provocatively than prior generations. Every generation has had clothing that was sexy. Ultra short mini skirts, skin tight jeans with bare shoulders etc. Even if girls were dressing sexier that would not mean they should expect to be raped.
  • Do you know what, this sort of thinking really irritates me. As a man, I can actually control the urge to stick my dick in any woman with a pulse, you know. It accomplishes nothing, absolutely nothing, to start playing "blame the victim". We need to blame the perpertrators. They're the sick animals who are responsible for the rape. People get raped regardless of what they wear, but if they are wearing anything that isn't a chastity belt, they are accused of asking for it. The problem occurs regardless of what women wear. The problem is the twats who want to rape people and the idiots who try to excuse it. Rape is never condonable.
  • Reported rapes are on a decline. I think your assumptions are wrong. Plus, rape is violence, not sex.
  • Rape is a crime of violence, not sexual desire. I did not know it was on the rise.
  • no, rape is about power, not sex.
  • No. Rape is the fault of the rapist -- not the victim.
  • To say that clothing plays absolutley no role whatsoever is a bit idealist. No I'm not blaming the victim, but think of it this way; isn't a guy who flashes his wad of cash around more likely to get mugged than had he not? The angle I'm getting at here is that the girl that dresses overly sexy tends to attract more guys that only want her for her body, and at a higher probability of aquantance rape. Not MUCH higher, but some.
  • I think it is. I'll give my reasoning for this. I had a discussion with a couple of friends. We were talking about what if two girls lie to their parents and say that they are sleeping at the other persons house, but aren't. After they lie they change into slutty outfits, and use fake IDs to get in to a club, and meet an older guy who winds up raping them. I said that it is 50% the girls and their families faults that it happened. It is all about the clothes they wear.
  • How do you explain rape of little toddlers and grandmothers with this rationale?
  • Absolutly not. It doesn't matter what the women wear as I guy I must say do the Rapists not have self control and if you think the womens clothes have to do with it does this not also mean that if a guy wears tight jean and a tank top he should be raped and if you are some one who thinks guys don't get raped think again they get raped by women and other men. they just don't come foward very often!
  • wow. i hope you are not implying that if women dress differently, less rapes will occur. That's sort of putting the blame on women, no? No, i don't think rape is on the rise b/c of young girls' clothing. And, who says rape is on the rise for young women? I would like to see this statistic. I dont want to be too argumentative, but rape has been around for YEARS. I would not be surprised if it was MORE COMMON in the past b/c there was less laws and lighter sentences then. (((((Rape is an act of violence, not "being attracted to someone".)))))
  • Amen Snooch

  • hi, this is a loaded question and very touchy to answer,so ill say i really dont know.
  • I'll say what we are allowing our children to wear isn't helping, but I'd attribute someone forcing sex on another person on a lot more than what the victim is wearing. How about music, TV, upbringing or mental illness? How about the overall availability of date rape drugs, or any other drugs for that matter? Clothing is the least of our concerns when it comes to rape.
  • i dont think that an assulter looks at the person. they pick a weak and helpless person that would be easy to victimize
  • no, rape is on the rise because people are becoming more isolated, less socialable and also undersexed, plus the things that keep us isolated, like tv and the internet increase our sexual desire (especially for guys cause they're more visually aroused). So you could see how the tension becomes insanely immense, while desperation scratches away at our lonely lives (men and women both). while the desperation of women probably leads more to depression, the guys's leads to aggression and violence. just a thought. one thing that really bothers me about the young girls though, is how young they are reaching puberty, now why is THAT?
  • Nuns have been raped. Old women have been raped. Babies have been raped. Try again.
  • Nope,it's because some evil bas*ards are stripping morally.
  • i guess its because womens clothing are more revealing, and this could be seen as sexually teasing, so yeah
  • No, because your question implies that it is the fault of the victem. Just to make sure your on the right page IT IS NEVER THE VICTEMS FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is rape on the rise, or is the reporting of rape on the rise? My guess would be the latter & hopefully its because women are finally being treated with respect from the Police & courts.
  • RAPE - Reaping Apart a Persons self-Esteem! it is the worst and beastly act to disintegrate mentally or physical torture and cruelty one human can be raped!
  • rape is on the rise?
  • I would say so. It certainly desnt help women that go around dressed up like skanks. what are men supposed to think? teasing men is all well and fine, but go to far and youll find some men who cant controll themselves. Thats what happens when your a tease. you cant expect all men to keep control when you tease.
  • Rape is on the rise because values and structure in a person's life is on the wane.
  • clothing is definitely more revealing and sexy, especially with the cute teen girls are wearing now. that definitely contributes. but its everything, what girls wear, the ads on tv and newsprint, and unfortunately how easy porn is to get on the internet. you can type in a innocent word in a search engine and some type of porn shows up.
  • I am in the minority on this one. I think that rape is on the rise, in small part, to the clothing young girls are wearing. Mostly it is a result of the deterioration of the family unit. Young boys are not brought up with decent roll models anymore. Christian beliefs are scoffed at. The judicial system is a quagmire of legal processes that is inefficient.
  • i think rape is on the rise because of the idiots that do it and hire sleazy lawyers that get them off and out of trouble because they use the stupid excuse of girls wearing slutty clothes..and im against that..i don't want girls to wear things that expose practically everything but just because they choose to do so doesn't mean they should be punished for it in such a nasty and demeaning way
  • Rape has nothing to do with what a woman is wearing! Rape is an act of violence! Rapists rarely make a distiction in age, weight, clothing or comeliness; they attack those they can when they can.
  • Nope. Its because there are more guys that can't control themselves and was never thought how to deal with it.
  • Fact from fiction, truth from diction. What a girl wears may not say "you will be raped in a mini" but it ups the chance that if she is in the wrong place at the right time she can be. Sexy dress can place into the mind thoughts that were not there to start. Same as someone breaking into your car to snatch your laptop or purse. They might have been on the prowl to steal but not actually seeing one on the front seat lessen the attention they give to your car. A gal in a mini might be attacked more easily because depending on conditions, the rapist don't have to wrestle with getting the skinny jeans off etc. But I think overall more gals are just reporting it.
  • No, it absolutely does not. It could play a role but it is not why. People are reporting it more, which makes it easier to prosecute. A lot of rape victims live in fear, but now that new laws are being passed and its pretty much harder now to get away with crimes they have more hope.
