My father-in-law has been in one going on 3 years. It's a sad situation. This man worked hard (post office) to put 3 daughters through college only to be struck down by Altzhemiers only about 2 years into his retirement. He's totally incompacitated. The family has had its ups and downs because they don't visit their dad as much as mom would like them to. This whole thing is just beyond unfortunate because a rift has been developed because of this.

No... I actually took my mom home to die in my home with me because I just couldn't put her in a nursing home.

Not because there is anything at all wrong with doing so as it is necessary for some and not a bad choice necessarily.

My mom was very independent and when she died, she had massive cancer all over her body and could no longer walk from the pain. I didn't want her feeling dependent upon anyone else.

I cared for her until her death myself.
