  • This is a great question. I am going to do this "honestly" (ethically? morally?) by not first consulting my dictionary. For some reason, I think of "ethics" as coming from within. See Sting's fab song, "Let Your Soul Be Your Compass." Moralists are following someone else's imposed rule book. I don't think I could ever do the latter unless it clicked with the former. I am a minister's daughter, a reforming Christian. But I can't make myself go into church nowadays because of this anti-gay thing. It doesn't click with my inner compass. BTW I enjoy your posts immensely.
  • I am not as ethical as zazzy and I did check the dictionary. I am not sure what is the difference between the two. Pls. explain
  • After reading your comment I would say that most people in society use the terms ethical and moral interchangibly. It is a moral obliglation for a Doctor to first do no harm. It is part of medical ethics for a doctor to first do no harm.
  • Morals are bigger then us (supposedly). Ethics are just man made rules that take care of the day to day stuff. Robinhood was unethical - in that he dissobeyed the kings laws. But might of been moral in stealing from the rich to give to the poor. An ethical doctor will do no harm. A moral doctor will try to help. An ethical lawyer will defend the guilty and prosecute the innocent. A moral lawyer would do no harm. An ethical accountant will obey the rules set forth for adding up all the columns. A moral accountant might fudge a little to keep the hospital running. Ethical people never lie - and so can't be trusted. Moral people will breakthe laws if its for the common good - or if given orders by that higher power.
  • I would rather be ethical first for it will set the standard for what my moral values in society will be. That is counting on society to be or have good ethics therefore having good moral standards. The difference is that ethics are an individual standard and morals are set by society. But one cannot exist without the other for we as individuals make up society and we then will set the moral standards by which to live by. Well unless you are a hermit!
