Question

Help answer this question below.

Swedish parents can now name their newborns "Budweiser" or "Metallica". Sweden had banned parents from naming their children after fast food chains, rock bands or their favourite brand of beer. Your thoughts?

That's a strange question to me since I live in sweden and read a lot of the national newspapers. And I remember me sitting down with some of my friends on a party discussing about this. And we were a little bit upset because a guy in Sölvesborg,Skåne in the south of sweden WASN'T allowed to name his daughter "Metallica".
He's still not allowed by the way. Her name is now Natalie, which I think is beautiful ;P
And according to "Svenska Bokförnings Myndigheten(SBM)" there isn't 1 person who has named their kid "Budweiser". Just felt like I should look it up. Didn't sound like a swedish thing to do :P
    Peace

I think it would be great to meet Budweiser Pettersson and McDonalds Eriksson. The next generation could then be called Ikea Budweisersson and Hennes & Mauritz McDonaldsson. Or Motörhead McDonaldsson meets Rammstein Wendy's. What else would you need?

    Done. never again.

I agree with it. If it's that much of a trend, I'm glad they stepped in.

I think the ban should have remained. Those poor children. And parents who are going to do that too their children shouldn't even be allowed to have any.

You know, I don't have anything against "unique" names on their own. I'm Cantras. It's unique. I play games under the character names Adaginy and Ashlen and I wouldn't be bothered seeing those names on real little kids either.

But I *do* think the government should have the authority to stop kids being named after bands & brands. Even if it went somehow into copyright law to do it, maybe. Sure, Budweiser isn't going to sue someone who names their kid budweiser, but would it be the same bad PR if they had to sign paperwork to let the kid be named that in the first place?
Maybe then we could stretch it so that there'd be no Jupiter Laserbeam Starcruisers or Alleluyah Icy Eight Special K <Whateverlastnameitwas>.

Well, it appears it is untrue. But if it were not, I think it would be a good idea.

as an american i feel affront when my government insists i wear a seatbelt in the privacy of my own car, i certainly balk at the idea that they would dictate the name choices for my child.

having said that, a parent who would name their child after a beer should be prepared for the child to change their name upon reaching majority.
