i just looked this up in wikipedia the biggest selling female artist is madonna with 213,100,00!!!!! after her is celine dion with 200 million (some also say 185 million) The third place goes to Mariah Carey with more than 160 million Celine Dion has more number one singles than Madonna though. But the book of guinness world records says Madonna is the biggest selling female artist of all time!! She is the queen of POP and re-invention. As for the male artist i've always heard that Michael Jackson is the biggest selling artist of all time. But i am nut sure if they are referring to the biggest solo artist of all time or just overall. Elvis presley tops the list with 1.8 billion records world wide.. But you have to understand that elvis had 71 studio albums. Michael Jackson has sold 750,000,000 (million) and he has only had 7 studio albums (the rest are compilations or re-issues)... With that many studio albums its easy to surpass him. Michael is considered the biggest selling artist for his individual record sales because they are record breaking. For example thriller is the biggest selling album of all time worldwide with 108 million records sold!.. The beatles well they are the biggest selling group or band of all time. Plus we are also talking about different genres of music. Elvis Presley is the biggest Artist ever, he has roughly sold 1.8 billion albums and still counting, many have claimed it that its 2 billion now. Madonna is biggest female star.

That depends on what you mean. Do you mean largest number of sales compared to the amount they released? Or just largest number of sales in general? If you mean in general then Elvis has sold over 1 billion records...but he released about 71 studio albums. If you are comparing to the amount of released content then it would be Michael Jackson with over 750 million records sold and only 10 studio albums released. However it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were the Beatles. Biggest selling female artist isn't quite clear, some sources claim Mariah Carey and others say Madonna. I would go with Madonna but I'm not to sure.

AR Rahman from India will by 2011 caught up to the beatles and MJ, if he carries on at the rate hes going at..and with his recent oscar win, its only going to accelerate...so far he has sold 460million copies in his 15 year career.
