What do you think Georgia was THINKING in attacking South Ossentia and killing thousands of innocent civilians including woman and children??? Why would they do such a thing do you think??
And WHY is the American Government DEFENDING Georgia?

What are you talking about? The violence between Georgian and South Ossetian forces was minimal, and mostly done for the sake of stability. Russia is the one that stormed in and killed thousands of people in the area.

I think the situation is more complex than you think. South Ossetia WAS part of Georgia, still is according to the United Nations. It has not been given independence or recognised as independent. Russia has been fuelling the independence movement and increasing its influence in the area (South Ossetia has oil!) and so troubling the Georgians who have been trying to regain control of the region (they did have most of it until the recent conflict). It is Russia that has done the damage, my friend. Not only did they enter South Ossetia, but they pushed on into Georgia itself, to within 60 km of the capital Tblisi. The dead are Georgians, not Russians. If America is defending Georgia, it is because this is an act of Russian aggression, and, officially, by entering South Ossetia and Georgia itself, Russia has attacked another sovereign state. If the region had no oil, however, Russia would not be interested and the whole independence thing would have been over very quickly.

The russians did the correct thing in attacking georgian forces.I think there heavy handed tactics were acceptable.Any group of people willing to commit genocide.should be dealt with severly and swiftly.Like putin said anyone who is willing to kill women and children will not be safe.I agree with him.

american gov't is full of morons... oh and an interesting fact galooly informed me of earlier He has read somewhere in a book that if America was to stop going to war, it's economy would fall quicker than a drunk baby. Apparently the country I live in is a war machine, and it constantly needs to be at war in order to stay afloat. *shrugs* Go figure.

It's all to do with geopolitics. The fact is, the decent governments are the ones that work with the UN to solve their problems, sign treaties and all that. The others, like India and the US (and Georgia, in this case), who ignore the UN and international law, are still morally in the dark ages and they will continue to get what they want by any means. Death is just a statistic.

I think that if the State of Georgia tried to secede from the US, we would do the same thing. It happened in 1863 with the south. What makes this situation worse for Georgia is that South Ossentia is trying to become a communist area in a democratic nation. That would be a direct threat to national security.

Georgia has evidently sought the advice of their good (oil) friends, Bush's US, and Israel. The cowardly terrorist attack that the Georgians initiated as the Olympics began had all the earmarks of an Israeli attack on a Palistinian villiage circa '50-'96. I guess what they didn't take into account was that they would be resisted by a country that actually has airplanes and tanks, and have subsequently had their asses handed to them. It is laughable the way the US media has portrayed this as an act of "Russian Aggression", completely leaving out the fact of who it was that started the killing. Also, that the initial attack in was a case of a military raid on civillians, just rampaging and killing anyone who happened to be around. If the Georgians are smart, they will end their involvement with their new buddies (neoCON Chickenhawks) and try to get along with the Russians who share a border with them. A good start would be to get rid of and possibly throw in jail or exile whoever came up with this murderous and idiotic plan.

This is what the American governmetn does, and has done for far too long. Georgia was probably coaxed into doing it by the US. Russians maintain such suspicions.

looks like every1 here watches russia today, has it even said that there wern't thosands head but hundreds, or about russia controling parts of georgia, or about the ethnic cleansing and crime being commited by russian backed millitants? Do any russins know about international law, i guess u have a reason, since the UK-schools were closed down by that KGB agent in control. Try reasarching this war and the land disputes that have been going on since B4 the soviat empire
