  • As in swearing? Definitely not. It's all about context. Obviously if someone is using offensive words towards somebody else in an aggressive way, it's totally different. But no.
  • I think people who use offensive words are trying to attract attention the only way they know how..by being shocking or vulgar. I think it may happen more often with Newbies, but I can't be certain of that. If the offensive words are egregious, then yes, I think they should be PB'd. I'm sure there are other sites where such forms of communication are considered "cool", "hot" or whatever the "in" word for that is these days..if that's how they like to communicate, I think they'd be far happier being with "their own kind"!
  • No, perhaps they truly didn't read the User Agreement. I'd forgive them a time or two. If this is a regular pattern of behavior? Sure. There are much more creative and less vulgar way to get the point across, if one has a decent vocabulary.
  • i think if it is a recurring incident then they should be PB'd. sometimes i accidentally let a swear slip from my keyboard without realising it, and im sure others do the same. . its a bad habit i know but i hope people know i mean no harm by it
  • No, I dont think they should.
  • Only when it becomes a way of life for a certain user. There should be a pattern of abuse. ........... We are here to discuss things intelligently, not to insult each other, or run after other users. Offensive words do not improve this site.
  • if its done by accident or in fun then no, but if its done maliciously then yes.:-)+
  • Difficult one - what is offensive to you may not be offensive to others. Sometimes people use what you might consider an offensive word in jest and to be offended is reading a totally different interpretation than was intended. Doesn't mean you are any less offended but they may be genuinely sorry for offence caused - you have to give people a chance! If it is obvious that someone is being malicious then PB them by all means.
  • No. THey should be warned first if it is upsetting to other ABers. If they use obscene language directed at an ABer, I can see that as the biggest reason to get thrown in the PB.
  • Nope, doesn't happen, unless they are profoundly obscene and they are doing it a lot or quickly in one post after another. Then they are PBed just to get them to stop. But usually they are warned first, by a CL and/or the Staff.
  • No, but you should be respectful to others. If you say 'I fxxxing hate carrots' its ok. If you say 'You're a big fat fxxx' thats not. :)
  • I agree with the lady on top of me. Sometimes crude vocabulary is the only way to express some things. It shouldn't be allowed to be used as offenses for others tho because that's just disrespectful and immature.
  • No... Only when they ask questions using them (kids read the questions, at least), or they start using them everywhere.
  • No. Cussing is art, and can often help to express things which otherwise cannot be let out, both good and bad. I would agree that if someone uses it excessively and just because they can, that some warning should be issued to secure whatever friendly allure this website aims for, though I also think that a user who uses these words to insult and harass another user should be banished because of their actions, not their methods. Someone who harasses and insults users but doesn't use any cussing should be banished just as much, for example.
  • It depends on the situation and on what they say. In some extreme cases, I could understand this. Offensive words belong to language and they could be used for some particular, valid reason. They don't necessarily make a particular submission offensive. Offensive submissions have to be flagged as such and get rejected (as long as the flag is accepted). As long as the offense is not extreme, it will stay by a rejection of the submission.
  • Some would say that there are no offensive words - only offensive thoughts.
  • Dont penalize them just burn their books.
  • Nope. Sometimes offensive words have no translation...
  • F**k no!!!;)
  • Yes. You came up with a brilliant idea.
