  • Well first of all, when I read this, I thought you were talking about a 3-year-old CHILD pooping in the litter box ;) It helps if you keep him in a room with the litterbox, so he has no other choice than to use it. Then after he is trained, he will go straight to the box to use the bathroom.
  • Is he fixed? If not then you have a life time problem on your hands. He most likely is peeing in the box, but marking the rest of his house as territory. Once a male cat starts that, even fixing him is not a certain fix or solution for the marking. If he is fixed then take him to a vet, rule out any possible physical ailments and then discuss potential psychological issues cats have - oh they can get many mental/emotional issues.
