  • Aligning numbers to the right is the default setting for Excel. If you would rather have them aligned to either the left or the center, you have two options. The easiest is to go to the formatting toolbar. Next to those buttons with B, I, and U (bold, italics, and underline) are three buttons with horizontal lines to represent text. One is aligned to the left, one is aligned to the center, and one is aligned to the right. After selecting the cells in question, click the button that corresponds to what you want. Alternatively, after selecting the cells, pull down the Format menu and select "Cells". You'll get a menu with several tabs-- click the tab called "Alignment". You can enter your left/right/center preferences there. Either method yields the same result. If you don't know which buttons I'm talking about, just go to the Help menu and put "align data" or something similar as your search term. Fairly clear instructions should pop up.
