I grew up in a very middle class neighborhood. Unfortunately I got thrown out at the age of 9 when my mother remarried. So I rented from school mates parents and lived in basements and attics. Made money doing yardwork and shoveling snow. Stayed out of child services and at age 17, after graduating high school joined the Army. Now 2 Bachelor and one Master's degree and a good work record I did well. Only thing missing, never in love, always alone because I have never been able to get close to people after being abandoned. Well, my substitute is pets. I am like god to them.

Yup. I grew up on the "rez" in CA back in the 50s. We didn't even have electricity back then. The folks worked the timber industry and the fields. We mostly lived on acorns and snowballs many winters.

I grew up in (several) small towns. There weren't really neighborhoods...poor or otherwise, unless you count the trailer park (typically: only one per town) as a "neighborhood". None of my friends (from school, not from my street) in general seemed to be richer or poorer than my family. For example: none of us had central air (that I recall). None of us had go-carts or mini-bikes. All of us had bicycles. etc.
