The reason you laugh is because there are clumps of nerves in specific areas of your body, and when someone tickles them, your body reacts by laughing to stop them from being over-stimulated.

Laughter isn't always directly related to what our minds think of as funny. Sometimes, it is used as an outlet or outburst of emotion that can't seem to find its proper channel of expression, think "nervous laughter".
What I'd also like to know is why others can tickle you but you can't really tickle yourself, and if this is somehow related.
It's positive sensation. Not like pain or sickness. So, I guess laughing is the natural thing to do!
Sometimes I laugh.
Why would I gag? That makes absolutely no sense to me.
