Why do rappers call themselves "Young" or "Lil'" when they're not that young or little?

For a good and catchy title. There's alot of money in rap and virtually any other entertainment for teen and adolescence. There's not much more I can say...don't conform to hippocrits :)

when growing up a lot of people who live in the hood get nicknames that use those prefixes. it's a trend and a cultural thing.

Because like one AB'er said most of them get those nicknames from their neighborhood and usaully drop the lil and young when they realize they've out growed it
