How did Joel learn to program so good? Whenever I take a class for PHP or ASP I'm stuck in a class with a bunch of people that can barely turn on a computer and I learn nothing but the basics over again.

And, for the record, you should ask Jon, Adam, and Alex, our programmers. I'm really not very good!

Most people learn the most when they actually go out and get a job. I am not making this up, college professors tell me this all the time. You learn the basics, as you are talking about while in school, but learn the more advanced topics when you actually get a job that utilizes those skills. That's how I got to be good at programming ASP. Your mind can make the connection between different concepts when you actually put those skills to use instead of learning theory and observing code examples.
