You'll need to think about this long and hard (pardon the pun). Even if she's receptive it could mess up her relationship with your mom. You might want to scout the sea for other fish and avoid the whole bunch of potential headaches.

When in your life will you EVER have a chance like this again? Your mom will be around you all the time, her friend may be gone in a year. Be tactful, become more involved with the conversations, and show interest in what she has to say. It may take some time, but keep at it. The more you get to know her, the more she'll get to know you. When the time's right, talk to her alone, as a "friend". Take it from there. Or you could continue to crank one out to her, and hope she wears a tight sweater when it's cold.

Forget about it. The chance of it going anywhere is very remote. But if it does go somewhere, the chance of it exploding into a big ugly mess is huge. More than likely -- you already give yourself away by how you act around her, vs how you act around other women.
