I'm working on a computer for a friend. It's an older PC with a PIII, and the machine won't power on, the motherboard has an indicator light that shows power is going through but when I press the power button, nothing happens, motherboard is an ABIT WB6.

  Lightning struck near my house last night causing my accidentally plugged in laptop to spark at the place where it was plugged in. the laptop works but refuses to charge. Is this an internal problem or a problem with the power cord?
