Question

Help answer this question below.

Okay people I'm seriously addicted to answerbag. When I get up in the morning it's answerbag time, at school all I can think about is answerbag, all I dream about is typing away on answerbag. How can I break this sick addiction?

You're asking all the other junkies for help quitting? Right after a major system upgrade?

Ok, here's what I think about this problem: the trouble with AB is that it successfully connects you up with a bunch of people and interesting conversations. You're not addicted to a web site, you're addicted to the people and the stimulating interaction. That's not really such a bad thing. Community is a healthy part of life, even if its electronic.

But, if it's causing you to neglect things in your life that need your attention, a balance does need to be found.

This may be too drastic, but if you can bring yourself to turn off all your email notifications from Answerbag HQ, that helps. It'll be less effective if you're on the Bag all the time, anyway, though.

I turned them off for three or four months. That was after I suffered through my "Home page set to Answerbag encourages binge behavior" period. No emails was a relief from constant interruptions and the inevitable mind-yank back to the Bag. Hard to get used to, but highly recommended.

Speaking of your home page, is it set to Answerbag? Oh man! If you want to break the addiction, change it to something else, immediately, and leave it alone.

Maybe Answerbag's not as addictive as heroin, but it's still strong. I had no real idea until I spent virtually all weekend here on Answerbag. Both days, all day, and half both nights. I'm not sure how I managed to pull away and sleep. Food arrived at my desk, but details are a mystery. I didn't accomplish a damn thing, except answer, rate, comment, repeat. I'd planned on the grocery store Saturday morning. I got there at 11:00 Sunday night, an hour before closing.

Satine, you didn't help. <big grin> You were one of my enablers! Yes, you. If you hadn't answered that question about running the red light, I would never have commented. My downfall came when I saw your return comment, "Exactly". <laughing> Our comments had a sense of being almost perfectly timed. We couldn't have planned it better. <High-fives> After that, I was toast.

Now it's Monday afternoon, and look! Still in the grip.
Update: Now it's Tuesday. Grippage is getting worse.

Okay. I'm three days' addicted now. I'm a lawyer and I work for myself. I always figure I can handle juuuuust about one on-line addiction at a time. But whenever I convert this time to billable hours...the $ lost boggles the MIND! Haha. But maybe it's worth it to break the mindless hold that Yahoo Spades has had over me for YEARS! Oh yes, the question was....

    Answer: check-out Yahoo Spades. (Snicker.)

Turn off you computer and stay off of AB for a week.
Get involved with fun activities, maybe go outdoors and play a sport.
