  • If you have insurance on a different car already you will be able to bring it to the dealer and leave with it for like 3 days before you need insurance i believe
  • A good dealer will look after all those details for you.....taxes, banking, insurance, licencing etc. If your doesn't, ask why not. Call you insurance company before you pick up your new car and let them know. They will note that your new car will be replacing your old one on your insurance package. You usually have a time-line (24 hours, 48 hours) for the switch over.
  • yes although if it is a brand new car you should get at least twelve months free in the package
  • Do you have a car insured now? Is this the car you are trading in? If you have no insurance now, you need to protect yourself by having insurance before you pick up the car. You don't want the liability of the car and possible accidents without insurance for even 1 block of driving. If you already have insurance, you need to check your policy or call your agent. The insurance may automatically transfer or cover your new car for a short period of time. But call your agent to make sure. The dealer could care less about your insurance, it is the financing company who will make sure you have insurance. And, in most states you will need proof of insurance before you can license the car. If you are financing, take a copy of your policy along to the interview. They may need to see it.
  • In California you have to have proof of insurance before you can register the car. The dealer will require that you show that proof to him. I don't know what the laws are in other states.
  • I wouldn't drive the car off the lot without insuance because anything could happen and you will be stuck with an expense that you're not ready for.
