  • They don't make very much profit on the goods they sell, because of the lower prices. They have to recover the money somehow. By passing the discount savings on to you (this is the service they provide), they charge for that service. Just like any other service a person might pay for. Hope this helps!
  • yeah but where else can you get 5 gallon container of mayonaise?
  • You should only do there if you're buying things in bulk, like if you have 5 kids to feed and need to buy lots of food and school supplies for very cheap. But it's not that high a price, BJ's is only $40 a year, AND they offer discount gas for club members
  • yes... and its a pretty good way to monopolize a customer too... would you go to a variety of stores once you payed for it???
  • It's a clever scam to make customers feel they are part of an elite crowd of privileged shoppers. On the other hand, if you've paid for something (membership) you feel you have to shop there to get your money's worth.
  • I dislike the membership fee for Costco but its a small enough amount that with what I buy I make that back and more in savings each year. The membership is $50.00, I usually save around $200.00 to $300.00 a year compared to the average price elsewhere. A good $100.00 or so of that yearly is on gas alone as they are always two to three cents cheaper than the gas stations.
