Yes, I have heard and even used the word "ephemera" in connection to collecting. It describes small things that easily get lost or disappear. For instance, in an art collection, items such as invitation cards to openings, small posters, information leaflets printed for exhibitions and given out for free, press releases, little notes made by an artist, letters and similar things would count as ephemera, as opposed to artworks such as paintings, works on paper, sculptures, and the like. Some collectors do not keep any ephemera in their collections, while others do. I tend to keep everything and maintain a file on any artwork I collect in which all data pertaining to it are kept.
