  • It's not illegal, but so many people were having allergic reactions to it that restaurants avoid it and so do many manufacturers. Foods that add it must label.
  • 1) MSG does not really have a taste, it's what is known as a flavor enhancer, in other words it makes food taste better without actually affecting the taste too much. 2) Illegal where?
  • I don't think it is illegal. It is a flavour enhancer that doesn't actually have a flavour itself
  • It's not illegal. In fact, it's the #1 ingredient in Ramen seasoning.
  • It is not illegal. But it is toxic. It is called an excito-toxin. What it does is excite your nerve cells causing an over abundance of taste sensations so you think it tastes better than it really does. But it can excite those cells so much that it destroys them, excites them to death. It is very dangerous but through politics in the food industry it is still labeled as safe but if you did your homework and research you would find it is a very dangerous additive. It damages the brain, liver, and the circulatory system. It can cause asthma, seizures and ADD.
  • It is actually something that is tasted by the taste buds; like salt, sweat, etc. I have heard it called "savory", your brain tells you that food with MSG in it is more "savory", or maybe you might call it "meaty". It exists naturally in foods, but literally everything can be harmful in excess, and the amount that we can tolerate is very individual. Naturally, if it makes food taste good, manufacturers will put a lot of it in the food. Some people have reactions to it, so it has to be listed on the ingredients. People who have alergies need to know if the thing they are allergic to is in the food item, this does not necessarily mean that the substance is harmful to everyone. And it is good to know what is in your food, so that you can choose for yourself what you put into your body. If you have problems with certain foods, avoid them.
