Using celebrities in product promotion is psychological. Many Americans relate fame with being successful. If a famous, and thus successful person uses a product, our brain correlates the two, subconsciously making one think that by using a product, one will become famous/successful. Celebrities may not be important when comparing a basic human life vs. another, but they are more effective in a materialistic country.

No. Most are pretty self serving, but they try to up there public image by doing publicized charitable events, or they go over to Micheal Jacksons house and cause a scene like the infamous Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Lopez breakup. MJ house is always crawling with paparazzi, so it's the best place to get there attention in Hollywood. Celebrities are just like you and me, their just trying to make a paycheck, it matters not what they do. But I will give thanks to Denzel Washington, he visited the VA in San Antonio and you won't believe what he did...the news media missed it... I think it's something everyone needs to see... http://combatarms.mu.nu/archives/099938.php As in Hollywood, it's difficult to separate fact from fiction.
