  • Because they are deadly, in many different ways. For instance, not only do they pose a threat to the user, but to people AROUND the user. There is a greater risk of car accidents or other dangerous actions or behaviors.
  • because they alter the way the mind or body works, also they become addictive and then they are the scurge of society.also because they are impure with no testing carried out to determine long term effects and no dosage so it is easy to overdose.
  • Because first of all if they made drugs legal, more would die, overdose, contract HIV and Hepatitis C. Also more crimes than not, are drug related. They are deadly, harmful and can affect the entire family in a huge way.
  • they are illegal for the same reason j-walking is illegal: some fat rich white guy decided that he would rather the world not have a few select drugs. A better question to sak would be 'why were illegal drugs made illegal?'. To that I would say, becasue when the drug was in legal use it seemed to epople that it hindered society and made the world wores for wares. So it was decided that everyone would be better off if there was some control on what people could use to be under an interesting infulence, therefore, opiates, pot, heroien, etc is illegal is certain forms and quatnities.
  • Use caution when asking people about the topic, most are usually hard wired, or biased as to the differance of Prohibition and Regulation pertaining to the Declaration of Independence. We are not as free as we fool ourselves into believeing,... I found the following on wikipedia.com. The prohibition of non-medical drug use is controversial. Proponents of prohibition feel that the use of psychoactive drugs outside of a medical context is dangerous due to the risk of addiction for many people, and that prohibition is the best means of controlling those risks and other effects, such as impaired driving, loss of productivity in the workplace and crime and violence associated with acquiring drugs. Some also oppose the use of certain drugs on moral or dogmatic grounds. Opponents of prohibition argue that it is ineffective, expensive, and more socially damaging than the use of the drugs it prohibits. They argue that prohibition creates crime and criminalizes innocent people that are not a threat; that there would be no violence associated with acquiring drugs if their source and use were well regulated. Opponents argue that prohibition is unconstitutional and that it violates natural law. The United States Constitution invokes prohibition only on the powers of government. The government is authorized only to regulate (commerce, the militia and the value of money), NOT prohibit. Prohibition is not the same as regulation. As acknowledged by the United States Declaration of Independence, legitimate governments are instituted to secure the inalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all. An inalienable right is a right that cannot be justly denied; not even by law or constitution. It is a right that is, by definition and natural law, retained by the people. The right of well regulated and peaceful pursuit of happiness is an inalienable and retained right guaranteed by the Ninth Amendment. Opponents of prohibition argue that the abject failure of the war on drugs is self-evident proof that these rights are denied only at great expense and injustice. (See war on drugs for a compilation of the effects of prohibition of drugs.) For further elaboration of the controversy, see: Arguments for and against drug prohibition. - wikipedia.com Search; Prohibition drug A RATING WOULD BE KIND OF YOU. A RATING WOULD BE KIND OF YOU.
  • Because they're bad and really harmful. Simple enough? My GAWD how old are you anyway? ten? you should know that if your a teen!!
  • Illegal drugs do not have the purity and backing of the Food and Drug Administration. illegal drugs can kill you. and, yes, legal drugs can kill you. the only difference is an overdose by legal drugs, compared to an overdose by illegal drugs is the manner in which they were possessed. Illegal drugs are illegal for the safety of the public.
  • the reason that drugs are illegal is becouse the gov't cant control the amount of it the the U.S. and even if they did the drugs that they would sell would be so much more expencive and the TAX would be added on to it that is why we don't want the gov't to control it and add money!!! that is why it is illegal and becouse we grow to make more and more!!!
  • Whenever any legislation is proposed that would forbid or mandate something, the key question is to ask who would profit from the change in the law. It all comes down to bribery and corruption of politicians. In the case of drugs, it is likely from pressure from the pharmaceutical and medical industruies to protect the financial interests of drug companies and doctors. I.e. people are forced by the government to pay a doctor to get permission to use the drugs that they want and/or need, because politicians are bribed by the doctor's unions. And people's choices in those drugs are limited to drugs manufactured by the big drug companies that also subsidize the politicians.
  • They make you CA...CA...CA...RRRRAAAZZZZYYYY!!!
  • Cause some peaple abuse them and they can kill you if over used.
  • CSA (Controlled Substances Act) The criteria is potential for abuse, accepted medical use, and potential for addiction. Now that really doesn't make sense... In the U.S. cannabis is schedule 1, so they really don't have everything clear. *Most people will answer safety because thats what everyone else says and it sounds good, doesn't it? ...no Alcohol prohibition was at least done with a constitutional amendment. When the U.S Controlled Substances Act was said to be unconstitutional the supreme court ruled in favor of the federal government. Supreme court has some extreme power nowadays that for some reason no one seems to question - thats another story though...
  • because people live in lala land and who ever takes drugs is retarded !
  • "I know!! Certain ones!! Why??"
  • Weed was made illegal in the early 1900's when immigrants brought the idea of smoking pot to America, it was outlawed which thus gave the U.S. the right to deport them for doing it.
  • There is no good reason that I can see other than "your government needs to protect you from yourself!". It should be a purely personal choice. It is none of the government's business what people put into their bodies.
  • Because if they weren't illegal, anyone could get hold of them and nearly everyone would be a f*cked up low-life.
  • If someone wants to harm themselves then let them be...If you have ever seen the movie traffic, there is one scene where Michael Douglas asks General Madrigal,"So how do you treat addicts"...his response was, "They overdose, and it's one less addict". Now I'm not saying your an addict but if someone wants to do harm to themselves then let them be, just tax the product...!
  • watch the history channel. there is a show called hooked. they all started out as medical experiments. opium was made illegal because when late 1800s to early 1900s asians were the worst hated immigrants. 99% of asian immigrants were men. they brought opium over. many snake oils, serums, and medicins contained opium. cause it killed pain. women were not allowed to drink in public so many women began taking opium medicins. so many women were addicted. back to asian immigrants 99% men, nothing to do but get high. the white men were afraid they would use opium to seduce white women so the made it illegal. lsd became illegal because soooo many young people were doing it in the 60s it was looked at as an epidemic. marijuana for some reason is also considered a hallucinagan so there goes that too. basically its just the government deciding whats best for you.
  • Imagine the death by driver being induced by narctic rate.
  • There is a poisonous prescriptive mind-set that causes some people to wish to interfere with the choices of others. The bigots who inflicted Prohibition on America, and sowed the seeds for an ineradicable culture of organised crime are the people who make drug-taking illegal, with the same result. It is essential for the criminals that drug taking should be illegal. Certain class A drugs are very easy to make, could be supplied cheaply, and made available to those who might wish to use them. Most people don't take drugs because they are prudent and don't want to, not because they are scared of the legal consequences. There was very little drug-related crime in Britain when drug addiction was regarded as an illness and treated by prescription drugs through the medical profession. Not much romance in being a junkie in that kind of society, and no opportunity for pushers and traffickers either, but, of course, that kind of mean-minded person, the kind who wanted us to stop drinking beer---Why are they almost always protestant christians?---decided that drug-taking is sinful and should be made criminal, and as a consequence we have gun-carrying gangs of drug-lords fighting out territorial battles in the cities of Britain, and the guns percolate into the rest of the delinquent society, the criminalising of drugs having led directly to a huge increase in criminal violence. The war against illegal drugs is being lost in Britain. The only way to win it is to make drugs legal and to regard addicts as the pathetic losers that they are. It won't happen for two reasons: the puritans won't support it, and people who have become so obscenely rich through the trade that they have the ear of the government will also campaign to maintain the source of their wealth.
  • ISNT IT OBVIOUS i mean i have no idea why weed is illegal not even most of the people i ask do. most people say weed is illegal because it cant be taxed but thats bulllshit. but think about the harder drugs- methanphetamines, opiates, and more. can you imagine if they were made legal? there would be a bunch of tweeked out crackheads running the streets even more if they were made legal. the governmnt are retards for making weed illegal but i, along with a lot of other people, understand why more extreme harder drugs are illegal.
