Question

Help answer this question below.

Should there be a minimum age when people should be forced to retire? Where I work there are several people in their late 70's and even early 80's that continue to be employed. It's pathetic. Even Fred Astaire eventually gave up dancing!

No way! Whats pathetic is seeing an elderly person comepletely give up on life just because people said, "oh, you're too old, go home".

some people can't afford to retire because social security and/or insurance can't cover all of their expenses. others have nothing to do other than work, and if they stop they won't have any hobbies or human interaction.

I actually enjoy seeing senior citizens doing what they love. Most of them have lost their spouses of umpteen hundred years and, instead of drowning in misery and giving up on life, they force themselves out of bed every single day to face a new day. I can't think of a better idea than that. I hope "I" do that well when I am old and have lost my beloeved husband. It takes real guts to do that.

What is pathetic is that you believe the crap you wrote! How dare you decide who can and can not work because of age ? That is discrimination pure and simple.in fact in Aust. there is now no compulsory retirement age. This is mostly because the older generation are and always have been a consistent earners and taxpayers..particularly now that there are more aged workers than younger ones...any country has to maximise it's income to further it's economy. I,and most of my generation ,have far more skills than most younger people and if we do not pass our skills along...what then happens? To say that because a person, who has worked hard all their life ,rearing young ones (like yourself),is then too old and should just fade away 'til death,is a huge insult. I think any one over the age of 50 would be upset at your statement, and rightly so. You can mark me down all you like, you can even abuse me....I'm still right, and you're still immature !! Of course,I mean this in the kindest way,and do not intend any personal insult !! lol

    Age discriminator?!!?

If they can do the job, and do it well, what do you have to complain about? Pathetic? How 'bout complaining about people who are older who are doing the same job as you, and PROBABLY most of them do it BETTER!

I've noticed that when people who are used to working most all of their lives retire and don't find something else to keep them busy, they die. If these people have no spouse and family lives hours away, what are they to do?

Again, if they can do the job, what do you have to complain about? And, is it YOUR place to do so? Apparently, they are doing well enough for your boss to keep them, right?

If they could perform the job duties, there is no reason for them to be forced to retire. If Fred Estaire could dance as well at 70, he probably would have done so. Personally, I plan to retire at 55, and won't let nobody tell me that that's too young. The opposite should hold true.

If you could afford to retire at 35, would you want to be forced to work until 55?
