Hard to prove when an officer paces a speeding vehicle, with the calibrated speedometer in his police car. More than likely, you will not win your case in court. Had you not been speeding, you would not be asking this question. Right?

Basically, it's your word against that of a person entrusted by the (town/county/state) to uphold and enforce the law. I can say from personal experience that matching the flow of traffic may easily put you over the posted speed limit, possibly without realizing it. I say pay the ticket.

25 is really REALLY slow when you're in a car... I bet you were speeding... pay the ticket and go to traffic school to get it expunged... There are worse things in life than an occasional traffic ticket... Save your energy for those...

In most States a Defensive Driving class not only gets you out of the ticket but also reduces your insurance premium. I once pulled into a carpark at a shopping centre, and when I pulled out, there was a school zone that hadn't been there before. I jumped on the brake, but couldn't get below 20 before passing the sign. I was nailed for 40 in a 20, even though I was braking like crazy. I went back the next morning and Hey presto! the school zone was gone again. The Constable must have made his month's quota in one afternoon. My lawyer got me off. I'd rather give him the money than the City on a bogus charge, and it didn't reflect on my insurance.

I was ticketed in late June for speeding in a school zone. The road has a speed limit of 35, and I was going only 25 due to traffic. But I crossed into the school zone going 25 - thats was five over. Slammed on my breaks. But the thing is that the school zone was a temporary one... one of those yellow flashy lights that make it a school zone only when flashing. So in the time it takes for those lights to flash on, the speed limit drops by 15mph. I crossed into the zone at the same moment those lights came on, I saw it start to flash out of my peripheral vision. A cop had a speed trap set up because he knew school was out. He catches someone nearly every day at the same time and same place. I told the judge and he cleared it.

New tires on your vehicle? If so, are they the same size as the tires that came on your vehicle from the factory? If not, your speedometer is giving you a false reading. The officer would not have chosen you to stop, had you not been violating the law.

arent you innocent until proven guilty? if the pi..err..cop cant prove you were speeding, maybe you could take it to traffic court and fight it?

Here is the thing about the cop not showing you the speed, he does not have to show you anything... nor does he actually have to proof of your speed. I have been caught this way a few times and not won once in court. It makes sense when you think about it though... if you were only going 5 over in the 25, it would still be noticable, so 45 in a 25, thats going to catch the cops attention... and you will get a ticket. ---I'm sure you have noticed that you can tell someone is speeding just by how fast they are going compared to others. The cops word is more credible than the "alledged" and when it comes to he said she said stuff so the judge takes cops word. Now, if there is truth to you not speeding, then ask them to view the tape from camera, it'll show it, but the cops usually don't make that kind of mistake. Not likely that he saw a white semi and confused it with your blue car. ;) Oh, another thought, he may have clocked you a long time before that, and was just slowly catching up.
