  • No. Going to church while not believing in god would make you a hypocrite.
  • Hypocrite is a technical term coming from the Greek stage. It was an actor--wearing a mask showing emotions that he, of course, did not feel. A hypocrite is a person who professes feelings that he doesn't feel, like Bill Clinton saying "I feel your pain" or tearing up on TV. "Hypocrite" should be distinguished from "sinner." If I say that drunkenness is a sin and yet become drunk, that doesn't make me a hypocrite, it makes me a sinner. If I become drunk and say I never do, I'm a liar, not a hypocrite. I would be a hypocrite if I was a drunkard but expressed contempt for drunkenness, and superiority for drunkards. I have been in churches whose teachings I didn't agree with; that doesn't make me a hypocrite. I might go to a pagan funeral; that doesn't make me a hypocrite. My friend is an ethical pagan but goes to church anyhow, because she knows she will get good ethical instruction there and her own temple is too far to drive regularly. Your specific problem is that, as St. James says in the Bible, "You believe in one God? Very good! The devils also believe that--and they shudder." You need to go to church so that your belief will advance farther along than the devil's religion, which is all that you seem to have at this point. It will not help you at the time of death.
  • Not at all. It might be hypocritical for you to go to a church where you don't agree with its way of expressing its belief or its form of worship. Many people who have a strong belief don't attend a church or belong to one. For some people, their relationship with their God is intensely private.
  • I am in the same situation. i have been baptised and a true believer of God and Jesus Christ. our church burned and we have just not found a replacement. we pray at home. You are not a hyprocrite, my wife and are not hyprocrites. our prayers are heard. our prayers have been answered, many, many times.
  • No... Your relationship with God, or whatever higher power one might believe, matters more than if you make it to a building to recite words written out for you. A personal conversation with the higher power means so much more.
  • Saying "Allelulia" and slandering ppl will make you a hypocrite, not by not going to church. However, going to church is like a child visiting his parent once in a while to say he loves them and he still thinks of them. Going to church is very personal time between you and God when you are doing nothing else than praising Him or talking to Him exclusively. Sacred place and space between you and Him.
  • Not really. I seldom go to a church. I am a Christian by birth and environment and by choice. I have studied many of the tenets of the world's major religions and philosophies in search of some global, cosmic unities. It takes a while. I have found and incorporated many beliefs from various religions that serve me well and seem complementary to Christianity, which in theory is very profound. Unfortunately, religious dogma as practiced by denominations often restrict a spiritual journey. I believe there is much to be gained by being independent and open minded. So, while you are not attending church, I think you may find comfort and fulfillment in trying to find and nourish your own beliefs re these major, cosmic questions. Though not in a church, I still feel a certain closeness to "God" in seasonal services when the spirit of the season seems to permeate society. Of course, to all spiritual people, the majesty of nature seems inspiring too. At times, religion/doctrine is uncomfortably confining. But this does not negate the benefits of examining the absolutely incredible fact of our amazing existence. I wish this were more coherent and concise, however, explaining "life and the meaning of everything" is a daunting task. REF: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Life is a journey, not a destination. How cliched that sounds, but that's the best I have at 4 AM.
  • The farthest thing from being a hypocrite. Church is a community, to reflect and share one's belief with others. Belief and/or faith in god is the key. But if one does not go to church ever or even on a regular basis, that faith is not lessen by it. Ones actions based on their faith is far more important. In the most broadest terms, one relationship with god is a personal one. Going to an established church can strengthen ones faith because of the celebration and community that many chuches provide but in the end, the god I know only wants to lead our lives with love and charity. You are more likely a hypocrite if you live your life without love and charity for others.
  • Not at ALL. Didn't you know..."church" is where Christians celebrate God. There are a whole planet of people that believe in God who aren't Christians!
  • No. Church isn't God. I don't go to church either..
  • A christian that doesn't go to church is a person who can belive in a man who ressurrected himself from the dead but not belive that they would have to get up in the morning on Sunday because of it. It doesn't make you a hypocrite but it does make you uncommitted to your God. (That is assuming that your God is the one true God and not one of those lovely personal Gods that everyone likes to have. You know the one who's morals are magically the same as yours.)
  • Nope. It might actually make you a better follower as you can listen to Him directly without the selfish clergy or deluded flock attempting to warp His words to their will.
  • It does not.Believing in god and going to church have nothing to do with each other. In fact going to church could taint and distort your belief in God.If your realationship with God serves you well, then you are truly fortunate.Just keep doing what you are doing.
  • Definitely not, i am in the same situation as you.
  • No but you should go to church when you can
  • "hypocrite" means you are below critical. "hypo" means "below". "critical" means examining your thoughts for flaws. Traditionally the word refers to someone who selectively applies logic to one situation but not another. Is this what you are doing? Doesn't sound like it to me. Besides, "hypocrite" is a judgement, not an existencial state. Who do you think would judge you?
  • Nope, it doesnt. The bible tells us not to forsake the gathering together of the saints, and Christ said "If you love me you will do what I say" Where in the bible does it say that when God calls someone to preach, he told them first to fundraise, and make a building and collect money to decorate it? The early believers usually met in each others homes and outdoors etc. I dont think a church building is wrong, but neither is it required to worship. The true christians will worship in spirit and in truth as previously mentioned and will have faith.
  • Only if you tell other people that they should go.
  • Jesus didn't go to Church every Sunday... =]
  • Nope. It's like saying that you can't be a conservative if you don't belong to the Republican party.
  • No, you would be one if you went to church and DIDN'T believe in God
  • Going to church now is like trying to get by many many many people who would love to try to judge you of your past present and future. How many feel that the people are more critical than God himself? But between me and God there's always acceptance peace and repentance.I dont feel that I have to please everyone there except God.
  • why do you need to go to church to be a good god believer? I think everyone should focus more on their personal relationship with their god as opposed to going to church. In my opinion churches and organized religion are merely tools for making money, getting more members and yeah do a little teaching in there too. But I don't think chuch has to be necessary to have a relationship with your god..I think churches are detrimental to man's spirituality. But what do I know, I am an athiest.
  • Of course not! One's belief in a Prime Mover and the way they treat their fellows have nothing to do w/ the dogma of organized religion.
  • No, God can hear you anywhere.
  • There's a lot of hypocrites in the church. I've seen 'em.
  • I have a sad heart. I walk in hills with my dogs everyday and pray and talk to God. Some days I dance or sing down the hills. I don't go to church but my husband is now trying to get to go with him all the time. The four walls of a church makes me not feel the heaven and earth. Its a man made box.
  • since you have faith in your heart even you do not go to church does not makes on hypocrite.
