What is the meaning of the song Scars from Papa Roach?

Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix built this song around Hannibal Lecter's the quote "Our scars remind me that the past is real" in the movie Red Dragon.

If you watch the video you'll notice him and his girlfriend are drinking and towards the end she knocks a candle into what looks like a spilled drink and catches the house on fire.. also if you watch the video the whole thing was shot on the charred remains of his house

My interpretation is that he is singing about a girlfriend who has problems. He has helped her before but it didnt work, he is basically telling her to leave. He discusses not being able to fix her, so maybe it could mean she is an emotional mess, or an addict? Good song

it could also be about cutting. i am familiar with that subject and the lyrics sound like what any cutter would say. but then again i may be reading too far into the lyrics . .
