Is it dorky for a 23 year old guy to wear briefs (tightey whities) ? My gf says there sexy and I think there a little more comfy then boxers but I feel like a total dork when I wear them so I ussually wear boxers.

• I wouldn't worry about what other guys wear or think. Wear what you are comfortable with and use your girlfriend's preference as a guide. Her opinion matters more than any guy's.

• Yea I don't really care for them either. My gf wanted me to try them and liked how they looked but I just didn't find them comfortable, i can do boxers or regular briefs but not both (boxer briefs)

• doesnt mean you'll go completely sterile, it just kind-of decreases your chance to have kids slightly. i'd have to do some research on it, but im not sure wearing breifs are the main reason for a man going sterile >_<

• It isn't a reason why guys go completely sterile. But back in the Urban Cowboy craze, when tighty-whities were what everyone wore (because boxers looked like your dads underwear) and tight jeans were the style, they did find that the raised body heat in the scrotum caused poor sperm counts.

  It appears that there's no proof about this. And altho it isn't a scientific comment, I can't help but feel that this idea of wearing boxers for fertility has the ring of many other myths that are not based in fact. ( Webmd has the exact same quote.)
  I think your comment about this being "far from settled" says it all. Until it's proven, let's not decide it's true. Personal testimony is not scientific fact, to be sure, but I certainly had no problem having kids and have worn jocks and briefs all my life. Other research suggests--not surprisingly--that there are many factors to low sperm count.

  Do you understand that in science, nothing is ever proven? Things continue to be researched and questioned and new theories come up all the time. Often they continue to be questioned because there is money to be made on one side or the other or both. For instance, the makers of whitie tighties might commission a study to prove their side, and since they are paying for it, the scientists doing the study might feel some pressure to structure the study so that the needs of the people paying them are satisfied.
  
  I found a study yesterday that said that if your fertility is already low from others causes, wearing tight clothes can lower it further.
  
  As for it being a myth that is long discredited by the medical community, who do you think started it? This is what the medical community does. Thirty years ago, the medical community said that cooking in aluminum pans causes Alzheimer's and many companies that made aluminum cookware went out of business as everyone rushed to throw out their cookware and buy stainless steel. Meantime, the medical community is now calling Alzheimer's Diabetes type III, and while patients still have a lot of aluminum in their brains, it is more than you could ever get even by cooking every meal in aluminum for a lifetime, so they don't know where it comes from. Wait for the next study and they'll throw it back the other way.
  
  So the bottom line is, believe what you want to believe. If you had no fertility problems, good for you. But the information might still be useful for someone who isn't as lucky as you.

• It's a good point, and yes, I know science doesn't always get it right. In fact, that's one of the attributes of science, that if new evidence comes along, we abandon old beliefs. And I certainly didn't mean that a guy shouldn't try boxers to see if it helps ( I just hate boxers.) I think I was responding to your statement that wearing tighties reduced sperm count. My "research"( admittedly not exhaustive) indicated that the jury was still out.. possibly in their own underwear!

• I have boxers but when I wear them they get all bunched up in my pants and its just not comfortable but I when I wear my regular tightey whities duh there tight compared to boxers but after 5 mins it feels like there not even there
