Response from Jim Buckmaster, CTO of Craigslist: The roots are really Craig, he just as a hobby put together an e-mail list which friends told friends about, and people kept contributing different things and it was converted to a website. To this day he has no interest in Craigslist as a business at all. Of course there are business elements you have to pay attention to whether you want to or not, and we certainly do.
