Dear xoxtinabinaox, no there is no legal way to change a chils's name without both parents involved, cause they both have to agree to the judge that they want their child's name changed if they both don't agree then the decision can not be final. so both parents must be involved. ask me more! Around here, it takes a signed paper by both parties. When I first checked about it it was free, it took two years for him to sign the paper, then it was $200 and I couldn't afford it. I wish I had just forged his signature. So make sure that he doesn't try that. But again, tell him to go ahead, and you'll just change it back. Are we talking about a last name here?

Here in California anyone can use any name they want, legally, as long as there is no intent to defraud. If you wanted to stop him, you could hire a lawyer and take the issue before a judge, but I think that is the only way. My son changed his name when he was about 13 years old, on his own. He simply started using the new name.
