  • Around here, it takes a signed paper by both parties. When I first checked about it it was free, it took two years for him to sign the paper, then it was $200 and I couldn't afford it. I wish I had just forged his signature. So make sure that he doesn't try that. But again, tell him to go ahead, and you'll just change it back. Are we talking about a last name here?
  • Here in California anyone can use any name they want, legally, as long as there is no intent to defraud. If you wanted to stop him, you could hire a lawyer and take the issue before a judge, but I think that is the only way. My son changed his name when he was about 13 years old, on his own. He simply started using the new name.
