Response from Roger McNamee and Rob Shiram, Both Leading Entrepreneurs in Web Based Businesses:
Roger: I think it’s very situational. People tend to look at the firm first and person second. My view is it’s all about the person and the situation. Someone who’s brilliant in on association is not going to be in every situation.
Rob: I would say, don’t look at the brand name. Look at the person in the firm who’s likely to work with you or who is sponsoring your deal, do you respect them, could you sit down with them and can they actually help you? That’s a judgement call you have to make.
Roger: That’s the essence of entrepeneurship. Making judgements about people is the single most important thing an entrepreneur does. The way I think about it is, is this person, who at 2 :00 a.m. I want to call whether I have good news or bad news. If I have bad news I call them because they can best help me, and if it’s good news, I want to call them because I’m so overjoyed and they won’t care.
