  • Laws vary world wide ... in some places they require a "just cause" while in other places they do not ...
  • In some places they can and do pull cars over to do safety checks: brakes, lights, etc. If they smell something, they can check further, etc. Or if license and registration don't match, etc.
  • YES. You can be pulled over and searched any time. If the cop wants to bad enough he can say what ever he wants. If you resist You will go to jail.
  • Generally, a state officer can stop you for anything. just to check to see if you have a drivers license and auto insurance. Local police generally do not have this authority, they must first observe a traffic violation or an outstanding warrant on the the driver or occupant to said vehicle.
  • They legally do but unless you have a lawyer they don't need it.
  • if they dont have a reason they make one up, so yes they can!!!
  • technically they have to have a reason but the laws are made int he favor of the law enforcement that they could use anything from improper lane change, to your car matched a suspects car to pull you over. Basically they can pull you over for anything and if they need a reason they will find one.
  • Yes they can..they can pull you over just to check for insurance and license..I was pulled over once and the officer said, just wanted to say have a good and safe afternoon..LOL :)
  • In most places, police have to have reasonable suspicion that some type of law or ordinance has been broken to stop you, or if your vehicle matches a vehicle description from a crime, you can also be pulled over.
  • They don't need a reason generally. Technically, they do need one. What they shouldn't have is a BULLSHIT reason, like "you looked kind of sexy driving, miss. Can I call you?"
  • I have a very large book full of reasons why you could be stopped. PC is required, but most people violate traffic laws pretty regularly. The people that say laws like failure to signal intent or disregard of a traffic-control device are stupid and should be remove should go turn their license in and sell their car(s)/truck(s). If you think safe operation of a motor vehicle is stupid then obviously you are not mature enough to be behind the wheel of one.
  • You could Try one of these two ploys. Accuse them of racial profiling. (Unless you have a body in the trunk.) Or say you are having a heavy period and need to get home quickly. That usually freaks them out. (If it's a policeman and you are female.)
